A squirrel-cage rotor for a flat annular air-gap type of asynchronous induction motor comprises a disc of magnetic material on one face of which there are formed a series of irregularly - shaped, irregularly - spaced substantially radial conductive paths between inner and outer conductive rings. The disc comprises a spiralled metal ribbon in which before being wound a series of rectangular slots 19 defining teeth 18 are formed; after spiralling, a conductive material, e.g. aluminium, is moulded into the zig-zag paths formed by slots 19 and forms also an outer ring 16 and an inner ring which may be integral with a hub, not shown. The rotor may be used with a stator disclosed in Specification 888,515, which is referred to.
