A navigation terminal having a motion recognition function and a method of controlling the navigation terminal are provided to input a command gesture input of a user to the navigation terminal such that the user freely uses hands and secure sight. A navigation terminal having a motion recognition function includes a photographing unit(110), a signal processor(120), a command analyzer(140), a controller(150), and a display unit(160). The photographing unit photographs a command motion of a user. The signal processor processes the image photographed by the photographing unit. The command analyzer compares image data processed by the signal processor with stored image data to analyze the command corresponding to the command motion. The controller controls the analyzed command. The display unit displays the command controlled by the controller.
