PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect occurrence of failure in a functional unit in a computer system. SOLUTION: This failure detection device, which detects failure caused in each functional unit in the computer system equipped with a plurality of functional units, is provided with: a failure notification circuit 11 equipped with a WDT circuit 111 which detects failure generation in a functional unit 1, and for notifying a diagnostic processor 3 of the failure generation, and for monitoring that the diagnostic processor 3 is notified of the failure generation; and a data transfer circuit 12 for, when the diagnostic processor 3 is not notified of the failure generation to be monitored by the WDT circuit 111, generating prescribed failure information data, and for transferring the prescribed failure occurrence data to the functional unit 2. When a failure notification circuit 21 of the functional unit 2 receives the failure information data transferred from the functional unit 1, the diagnostic processor 3 is notified of the failure occurrence in the functional unit 1 based on the failure information data.
