PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the front edge of an OHP paper without a shading mark in an image formation device using an optical means for detecting the paper front edge. SOLUTION: In the image formation device equipped with the optical paper front edge detecting means and a lever-type paper width detecting means, when the optical paper front edge detecting means does not detect the paper front edge while the paper front edge being detected by the lever-type paper width detecting means, the paper is distinguished to be the OHP paper. When the paper is judged to be the OHP paper by the means, the image formation control is performed in synchronization with the output of the lever-type paper width detecting means.
