PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize the whole of an engine including an engine cooling device. SOLUTION: A cooling housing 18 is fixed in the front face of a chain cover 13. The cooling housing 18 comprises a pump housing 19, a thermostat housing 20, a water outlet 21, and a passage forming housing 22. The cooling housing 18 is integrally formed. A water inlet 23 is connected and secured to the thermostat housing 20. A connection port of the thermostat housing 20 for the water inlet 23 is directed in a direction parallel with the front face of the chain cover 13 and is disposed in the outside of the front face of the chain cover 13. More specifically, a storage chamber 29 within the thermostat housing 20 is a chamber having a linear shape extending in parallel with the front face.
