<p>A valve assembly (500) for an internal combustion engine includes a stationary permanent magnet assembly (504) having at least one permanent magnet (144) for generating a permanent magnetic field and a movable coil assembly (506) having at least one coil (182, 184, 186, and 188) of electrically conductive material for generating a magnetic field when an electrical current is applied to the at least one coil to thereby move the coil assembly (506) with respect to the permanent magnet assembly (504). A valve (508) is connected to the coil assembly (506) for movement therewith. The valve assembly (500) also includes a housing (502) with an internal cavity (518) and spaced ports (520, 552) extending from the cavity (518) to circulate liquid through the cavity and cool the valve assembly (500) during operation.</p> |
