<p>A system (100) and method (300) detect the presence of a narrowband signal having a bandwidthΔF2 in a wideband frequency channel having a bandwidthΔF1>ΔF2. The method (300) includes digitizing (310) a signal received in the frequency channel; transforming (320) the digitized signal into N digital frequency domain components; averaging (330) the power spectrum of the N digital frequency domain components over a plurality of samples; filtering (340) the averaged power spectrum of the N digital frequency domain components with a filter having M non-zero values spanning a bandwidth,ΔF3, where N>M andΔF1>ΔF3; computing (350) a mean,μk, a modified standard deviation,βk, and a peak value, PMAX of the filtered, averaged power; and detecting (360) the presence of the narrowband whenever PMAX>(k1*μk)+(k2*βk), where k1 and k2 are selected to provide a probability of detection, a probability of missed detection, and a probability of false alarm.</p> |
