A motor control device for a construction machine has a hydraulic pump, a hydraulic motor driven by pressurized oil from the pump, a control valve for controlling the flow of the pressurized oil to the motor from the pump, a pair of main pipe paths on the sending and return sides for interconnecting the hydraulic motor and the control valve, an operation member for operating the control valve to a neutral position at which supply of drive pressure from the pump to the motor is stopped and to a non-neutral position at which the supply of the drive pressure is performed, a brake pressure generation device for generating, in the main pipe path on the return side, braking pressure acting against the rotation of the motor with the control valve operated to the neutral position by the operation member, and a control device for guiding the pressurized oil from the pump to the pair of main pipe paths while the braking pressure is generated by the brake pressure generation device.
