<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent scale deposition easily generated when water quality hardness of well water or the like is high. <P>SOLUTION: This heat pump type water heater B includes: a heat pump unit A on the side of a heat source, having a refrigeration cycle; a water tank 7 storing water; a water supply pipe 8 supplying water from the outside into the water tank; a water circulation pipe 9 communicating with the bottom and upper portion of the water tank; an absorption heat exchanger 10 located in the middle of the water circulation pipe and absorbing heat from the heat pump unit on the side of the heat source; and a hot-water supply line 12 supplying hot water in the upper part of the water tank to the outside. The water supply pipe is branched into a plurality of water supply routes, a first water supply route 8a supplying water supplied from the outside into the water tank as it is and a second water supply route 8b supplying water from the outside into the water tank after water quality is improved through a water quality adjustment unit so that scale is not easily generated.
