<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an assist device capable of smoothly supporting stand-up or sit-down, and also allowing a user to smoothly transfer from a bed to a wheelchair or from the wheelchair to the bed, and to provide its usage method. <P>SOLUTION: The assist device includes: a rotary fulcrum part (15b) arranged in the bed or the wheelchair; an assist pad support part having a rotary shaft (15a) connected to the rotary fulcrum part, and rotating around the rotary fulcrum part (15b); and a pad 10 supported by the assist pad support part. A rotary damper part 15c as a rotation control part is arranged between the rotary shaft and the rotary fulcrum part. The rotary damper part 15c locks or unlocks the rotation of the pad 10, and imparts rotary resistance to the rotation.
