PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the quality of sewn articles by securely forming intended sewing lines according to desired sewing patterns even in changing the sewing lines formed immediately before and after stopping a needle bar holder. SOLUTION: When a determining means 50 determines that the set position of the switching member 35 is changed immediately before and after stopping the vertical movement of the needle bar holder 5, at least one of needle bars 12 engaged with the needle bar holder 5 is raised to an upper dead point by driving a main shaft motor 3 in a reverse rotational direction before forming the first sewing line after changing by lowering the needle bars 12 and the engagement or the cancellation of the needle bars 12 to the needle bar holder 5 is switched according to the set position of a switching member 35 at first sewing line formation, and thereafter the main shaft motor 3 is driven in a normal rotational direction so as to start forming the first sewing line.
