PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber which can solve a problem that mesophase pitch having an extremely high or low softening point can not be used as a raw material for the carbon fiber, and can suitably be used as a heat-releasing material or a resin-reinforcing material, and to provide a method for producing the carbon fiber. SOLUTION: The method for producing the carbon fibers includes: properly preparing a pitch mixture having at least two or more mesophase pitch raw materials having different softening points, obtaining carbon fiber precursors from the melted product of the pitch mixture by a melt blow method, and then infusibilizing and calcining the carbon fiber precursors.
