<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device and a projection method capable of improving brightness. <P>SOLUTION: The projection type display device 30 has a light source 31 and a color wheel 35. The color wheel 35 is provided with a filter 351 having a plurality of color segments including a red segment 354, a green segment 355 and a blue segment 356 for separately transmitting the light emitted from the light source 31 as a plurality of color light beams of red, green and blue having different wavelengths in time-series.
