<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure pump small in size in both the axial and the radial directions of a plunger. <P>SOLUTION: The high pressure fuel pump 10 is equipped with: fuel passages 28, 22, 25; a pump chamber 24 into which fuel flows from the fuel passages 28, 22, 25; a valve member 56 for adjusting the amount of fuel which flows into the pump chamber 24 from the fuel passages 28, 22, 25 by reciprocating in the axial direction; and the plunger 34 for pressurizing the fuel in the pump chamber 24 to discharge the fuel to the outside.
