PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid interference with a crane garter by shortening the length of the whole mast, and to perform a replacement work of fuel assemblies or the like in a short time. SOLUTION: This device has a traveling carriage 10a traveling along one direction on a horizontal plane on a track provided over a reactor pressure vessel; a traversing carriage 10c moving in a direction perpendicular to the track on a horizontal plane provided on the traveling carriage; a multistage extension mast 1 extensible in the vertical direction, suspended from the traversing carriage, and constituted of a plurality of masts; and a gripper 9 mounted on the lower end of the multistage extension mast. An extension mode of the multistage extension mast when inserting/taking out fuel assemblies and a reactor internal structure into/from a core part is set to move a plurality of stages simultaneously.
