An error detection method by which a data string of predetermined bit length is regarded as a polynomial, the data string in which the error detection code is added to the data string is inputted so that the polynomial is divided by a polynomial for error detection code generation (generator polynomial) to achieve a remainder of 0, and the presence/absence of an error in the inputted data is detected. The error detection method comprises a step of previously calculating the remainder when the polynomial corresponding to each bit position is divided by the generator polynomial to store it in a memory, a step of inputting bit position information indicating the normal bit position of each data together with the inputted data string, a step of determining the remainders corresponding to the normal bit positions of data not 0 of the inputted data string from the memory and adding the determined remainders to bit-by-bit correspondence, and a step of judging, if the results of the addition become 0 in all bits, that there is no error in the inputted data string and otherwise judging that there is an error therein. |
