PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormal noise generation timing specifying method and an abnormal noise generation timing specifying device capable of specifying easily and highly accurately a generation timing of an abnormal noise from an object engine with a simple and inexpensive constitution. SOLUTION: In this abnormal noise generation timing specifying method, an engine sound and a crank angle of the rotating object engine E are detected continuously as long as a prescribed time, and the detected engine sound and crank angle are recorded in a recording means 13. Then, the engine sound is reproduced, and an output timing of a pulse sound is adjusted, and thereby the pulse sound is synchronized with an abnormal noise included in the engine sound. The output timing of the pulse sound is specified by the crank angle of the object engine, and the specified crank angle is specified as the abnormal noise generation timing.
