PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device that suppresses reduction of brightness in one frame period, reduces the processing load, and can suppress animation blurring effectively. SOLUTION: The video display device 100 includes a low brightness frame forming section 230 for forming a low brightness frame where brightness of the original frame corresponding to a video input signal is reduced, a compensation frame forming section 240 for forming a motion compensation frame where the motion of an object included in the original frame is compensated, a synthetic ratio changing section 250 for changing the synthetic ratio of the low brightness frame to the motion compensation frame in response to a video characteristic acquired based on a video input signal, a synthesis section 260 for forming a synthetic frame by synthesizing the low brightness frame and the motion compensation frame, and an output section 270 for inserting the synthetic frame between the original frames.
