PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system for making a driver understand how long the distance from the location of a self-vehicle to a guidance location such as an intersection is at a glance. SOLUTION: When the self-vehicle is traveling according to a recommended route, the distance from the location 22 of the self-vehicle to the guidance location 23 is computed, and the width of a screen region to display a summary map (20) is set on the basis of the computed distance. Then the screen is divided into two right and left image regions. The summary map (20) indicating the traveling direction of the self-vehicle at the guidance location 23 is displayed on the left-side screen region. The width of the screen region to display the summary map (20) is thereby changed according to the distance from the location 22 of the self-vehicle to the guidance location 23.
