A portable terminal and a method for composing and playing a slide show thereof are provided to compose various slide shows by using various functions at a slide show generation mode which consists of an image tap and a screen conversion tap. A controller confirms that a portable terminal is in a slide show creation mode(S121), and checks over whether or not an image tap is focused by driving a slide show generation key(S123). If so, a slide show generation device displays a corresponding function(S125) and checks over the selection of a directional key(s127). If the directional key is selected, the slide show generating device creates a slide show(S129). The slide show generating device checks over the termination of the slide show and terminates a slide show generation mode(S131). A controller stores the generated slide show at a memory(S137).
