PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition for paper coating, which provides a coated paper not emitting formaldehyde, has excellent product storage stability at a low temperature (≤10°C) and further has excellent water resistance. SOLUTION: The resin composition for paper coating is obtained by reacting polyamines, alicyclic dibasic carboxylic acids and/or a reaction product obtained by reacting glycols of 1 mol with the alicyclic dibasic carboxylic acids of >1 mol, ureas, a crosslinkable compound and caprolactams, and contains <1.5 wt.% of compounds (I) and (II) in total.
