PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detector which can detect a detection object at an improved detection ratio even when using a single imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: For a pickup image, average luminance is calculated as an index indicating whether or not environment around a pedestrian is the one under which it is easy to detect the shape of the pedestrian, and a threshold regarding reliability used for detection judgment is determined based on the average luminance (104). Then, a detection object candidate which seems to be the pedestrian is detected from the pickup image (106), the reliability of a detection result is simultaneously calculated (108), when the calculated reliability is equal to or more than the determined threshold, it is judged that the pedestrian is detected from the pickup image (110). Then, the number N of judgment results used for time series judgment is determined according to the determined threshold (114), and whether or not the pedestrian is detected from an area for detection is judged based on judgment results to each of the N continuous pickup images (120).
