PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a saddle-riding type electric vehicle which can increase the flexibility of layout of a vehicle body, support an increase in the size of a secondary battery, and can efficiently cool the secondary battery by improving an installation method for the secondary battery. SOLUTION: The saddle-riding type electric vehicle 1 includes a secondary battery 85 for supplying electric power to a motor 24a and a carrier 22 for carrying luggage 150, in which the carrier 22 is located behind a seat 15 for supporting an operator and above rear wheels WR. The carrier 22 is formed like a box having an internal storing space and the secondary battery 85 comprising a plurality of nearly rectangular parallelepiped cells 87 is stored in the internal space of the carrier 22, thereby increasing the flexibility of the layout of the vehicle body. A spacing 76 is provided between an inner wall of the carrier 22 and the secondary battery 85, and the carrier 22 is formed with air inlet openings 73 for introducing travel wind and an air outlet opening 74. The cells 87 are arranged adjacent to each other so as not to vertically overlap each other. A mounting base 80, protection plate 82, and protection pipe 81 are disposed so as to surround the secondary battery 85 between the secondary battery 85 and the inner wall of the carrier 22.
