PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent malfunction in a mobile telephone or the like without needing a surplus operation such as set/release of key operation invalidation mode. SOLUTION: The portable electronic device comprises a capacitance sensor 30 provided in a planer form on at least a part of a surface of a case body of the portable electronic device or in the vicinity of the surface; a means which inspects whether a capacitance change detected by the sensor 30 is caused within a predetermined area range or not; and an input signal generation means which generates an operation input signal corresponding to a detected site of the capacitance change when the capacitance change is caused within the predetermined area range, and does not generate the operation signal corresponding to the detected site of the capacitance change when the capacitance change is caused out of the predetermined area range.
