发明名称 Means of preventing hydrogen embrittlement in metals exposed to aqueous electrolytes
摘要 In a method for imparting resistance to hydrogen-induced embrittlement in aqueous media to tantalum, columbium, vanadium, tantalum-titanium alloys, titanium-manganese alloys, stainless steels or rimmed steel, the immersed portion of the susceptible metal or alloy is coupled to the noble metals ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium, platinum, gold or rhenium or alloys thereof, the coupling being effected so that the ratio of the wetted area of noble metal or alloy thereof to wetted area of the susceptible metal or alloy is not greater than 1 to 1. The coupling may be accomplished by means of plating, welding, mechanical contact, for example by wrapping a wire composed of one of the noble metals around the metal susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement, by rubbing or gilding the metal surfaces with powders or the end of a rod composed of the noble metal, or by electrical connection. The presence of the noble metals as soluble salts in the corrosive medium assists in preventing embrittlement. Such a metallic couple may be used as an electrode, for example, the electrode may consist of a body of tantalum at least partially plated with platinum.
