PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile communication device capable of securing an appropriate communication state by acquiring line characteristics in a stable state while avoiding timing when a line current fluctuates sharply. SOLUTION: The facsimile communication device includes: a line state measurement means for measuring the state of a communication line for transmitting data; a setting means for setting the control conditions of line terminal characteristics according to the state of a communication line measured by the line state measuring means; a storage means for storing a measurement timing (for example, 1 second) in shifting to a stable state of a communication line; and a control means for operating the line state measurement means with a lapse of the measurement timing acquired by the storage means when off-hook is detected. The control means ensures the stable line state even in an unstable telephone line by delaying the measurement timing until fluctuation converges if the state of the communication line measured by the line state measurement means exceeds a preset value.
