PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of performing smooth document read processings by reducing time and labor to change settings for selecting a read mode. SOLUTION: When overlap feed detecting means 160a and 160b detect the sheets of a document being fed one over the other in non-separate conveyance operation mode, it is deduced that a half-folded document is detected, and the document is subjected to half-folded document read processing, thereby outputting an image formed by connecting a front-surface read image and a back-surface read image obtained by image read units 140 and 150.
