The invention relates to a separator (1) for separating oil mist from the crankcase ventilation gas of an internal combustion engine (7), especially of a motor vehicle. Said separator (1) comprises a gas purification chamber (11) inside which a rotatably mounted centrifugal rotor (2) is arranged. The gas purification chamber (11) has a crude gas inlet (61), a pure gas outlet (62), and an oil outlet (63). The crankcase ventilation gas can be conducted into a radially internal zone of the centrifugal rotor (2) via the crude gas inlet (61), while pure gas that is liberated from oil mist can be discharged from the gas purification chamber (11) via the pure gas outlet (62), and oil separated from the gas can be discharged from the gas purification chamber (11) via the oil outlet (63). The separator (1) further comprises a rotary drive for the centrifugal rotor (2). Said rotary drive is disposed in a drive chamber (12) of the separator (1), can be operated using pressurized lubrication oil of the internal combustion engine (7), and is connected to the centrifugal rotor (2) by means of a shaft (3) extending from the drive chamber (12) into the gas purification chamber (11), from which the drive chamber (12) is separated. The rotary drive is formed by at least one thrust nozzle (38.1, 38.2) which is connected to the shaft (3) and to which the pressurized lubrication oil of the internal combustion engine (7) can be fed. The novel separator is characterized in that at least one part (45) of a base (4) that forms the separation between the gas purification chamber (11) and the drive chamber (12) extends into the drive chamber (12), said part (45) of the base (4) being fitted with a seat (46.2) for a bearing (33.2) of the shaft (3). The bearing (33.2) is located at a distance from the centrifugal rotor (2).
