The invention relates to a method for typing or identification of a micro-organism using vibrational spectroscopy, comprising performing vibrational spectroscopic analysis on a sample of at least one micro-organism, characterised in that, signal variance caused by bleachable components in said sample is substantially eliminated from the obtained vibrational spectra, said bleachable components being identified as components that generate vibrational spectral bands that upon photobleaching show a reduction in intensity, thereby providing corrected vibrational spectroscopic information for typing and identification purpose.
