PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide conductive powder which is free from lead and industrially readily utilized and can be satisfactorily dispersed in paste when it is used as the conductive powder for a thick film resister to obtain the paste and the paste is fired into the resistor, and from which a resistor having good electrical characteristics can be obtained, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The conductive powder is characterized in that the average particle diameter is 20-80 nm, the thickness of a coating film is 0.2-2 nm, and it contains iridium oxide in an amount of 4-30 mass% based on the total amount. The method for producing the conductive powder comprises mixing ruthenium oxide powder and chloroiridate so that the blending ratio of ruthenium and iridium contained in respective compounds satisfies following relation: iridium oxide/(ruthenium oxide + iridium oxide) =4/100 to 30/100 by mass, then roasting the resulting mixture at 540-800°C for 0.5-60 min in an oxidizing atmosphere, and cleaning the roasted material with water.
