摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect a discharge product adhering to the surface of an image carrier so as to precisely perform cleaning processing for removing the discharge product, thereby suppressing image noise such as image deletion and also restraining the life of an electrostatic latent image carrier or the like from getting shorter due to excessive cleaning and abradant (toner or the like) used for cleaning from being wastefully and excessively consumed. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 10 includes: a torque measuring part 91 for measuring driving torque of an image carrier 1; a torque rise detection part 92 for detecting that partial torque rise is present when the partial torque rise is found in the driving torque measured by the torque measuring part 91; a grinding cleaning means (cleaning device 6 or the like) for the surface of the image carrier; and a cleaning control part 93 for controlling the grinding cleaning means to grind and clean the surface of the image carrier on a condition that the torque rise detection part 92 detects that the partial torque rise is present.
