PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical assembly, capable of easily performing positioning of various parts while perfectly abolishing use of adhesive, and an optical module obtained by modularizing the optical assembly. SOLUTION: The optical assembly includes an optical function part having first and second end surfaces parallel to each other, a pair of collimators disposed respectively on the first and second end surfaces to be opposed to each other, and an outer split sleeve which holds the collimators inserted from both ends thereof. Each of the pair of collimators includes a cylindrical lens and an inner split sleeve which is a cylinder having an inside diameter equal to or smaller than the outside diameter of the cylindrical lens and including a slit formed in parallel to the central axis, so that the lens is held by the inside surface at one end side of the inner split sleeve.
