<p>Method for scheduling use of a downlink packet data traffic channel shared by a plurality of mobile and/or immobile stations (12), each station having a scheduling downlink transmission rate (R1, R2,....... Rn). The method comprises the steps of: determining a ranking metric (RANK) for each of said mobile/immobile stations (12) having queued data that varies directly with the mobile/immobile station's scheduling downlink transmission rate (R1, R2,....... Rn), and a delay factor indicative of the staleness of data queued for each of said mobile/immobile stations (12) having queued data. The method also comprises the steps of: determining an uplink metric (ULM) for each of said mobile/immobile stations (12) having queued data, and scheduling one or more downlink transmissions to the mobile/immobile stations (12) on the downlink packet data traffic channel based on said ranking metric (RANK) and on said uplink metric (ULM).</p> |
