PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a delay of the main scan start timing in an X-ray computed tomography apparatus. SOLUTION: In an aspect, an X-ray computed tomography apparatus monitors the density of a contrast medium injected into a subject by a preparation scan so as to adjust the main scan start timing with a scan condition different from that of the main scan. The apparatus includes an X-ray tube 110, an X-ray detector 113, a high voltage generation unit 14 to apply a high voltage to the X-ray tube 110, a reconstruction unit 24 to reconstruct tomographic image data based on an output of the X-ray detector 113, an operation unit 26 to set a region of interest to the tomographic image data, and a control unit 21 to compare the average of CT values of a part of pixels in the region of interest with the threshold value and stop the preparation scan and start to execute the main scan or preparing the execution of the main scan when the average reaches or exceed the threshold value.
