PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excavator of rectangular cross section simple in structure and capable of accurately excavating an underground pit of rectangular cross section. SOLUTION: This excavator 100 of rectangular cross section excavates a working face with an endless chain extending along the peripheral edge of rectangular cross section to be excavated, and cutter spokes 30 extended to a rotary support body 24 disposed at the center part of rectangular cross section. Since the tips of the cutter spokes 30 can be displaced along the peripheral edge of rectangular cross section, the rectangular cross section can be accurately excavated, and its structure is extremely simple.
