PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a user from imaging an object while inclining an imaging apparatus in the horizontal direction of an image space and to suppress an increase in manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus determines a linear component satisfying a vertical line automatic determination condition in an image picked up by an imaging section (S14), and performs automatic vertical line determination processing for extracting the vertical line component (S16) if an appropriate line component exists (YES in S15). The imaging apparatus 1 displays an auxiliary line on a vertical line component extracted by processing in S16 and an auxiliary line connecting a vanishing point and a gazing point on an LCD (S17). Inclination of the imaging apparatus 1 is detected based on the vertical line components and when the inclination falls within a predetermined range, a message such as "OK" is displayed on the LCD for a user.
