PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic device for effectively writing in a recording medium of high density with a high magnetic coercive force. SOLUTION: A magnetic device includes a write element (12) having a write element tip (34) and a conductive coil (20) for carrying a current to induce a first field from the write element (12). A conductor proximate the write element tip (34) carries the current to generate a second field that augments the first field. A driver (52) provides the current to the conductive coil (20) and the conductor (14), and a circuit (56) phase shifts the current through the conductor (14) relative to the current through the conductive coil (20).
