PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing unit capable of preventing unfixing of a toner image on paper by preventing a decrease in the surface temperature of a pressure roller in a printing standby state, and to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The belt type fixing unit solves the problem by including: a pressure roller temperature monitoring means that monitors the surface temperature of the pressure roller in a printing standby state; and a heat source control means for preventing the cooling of the pressure roller by increasing the temperature of the heat source for a short time if the monitoring result of the pressure roller temperature monitoring means detects the pressure roller surface temperature that has decreased to a predetermined temperature or below.
