PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston cylinder assembly which is constituted so that a fixing element easily supports a movable load of a vehicle, that at the same time vibration having a small stroke which has a high-frequency vibration caused by a road is separated from a vehicle body, that buffering action is not significantly impaired at the time of movement having a relatively large stroke, that the buffering action is softly introduced, and also that a sudden change in a force during buffering can be avoided. SOLUTION: A level matching part is provided which is operated through internal pressure. The end surface 16 of a piston rod 3 arranged in a chamber 8 or an end surface 16 of a pin 12 arranged in the chamber 8 has a first effective cross section which is acted upon by pressure. The first effective cross section nearly corresponds with the second effective cross section 17 of the piston rod 3 which is acted upon by pressure in the piston cylinder assembly 1, and the first and second effective cross sections 16, 17 are acted upon by system pressure.
