PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for advancing a dehydrogenation reaction from a hydrogen storage medium and a method for producing the hydrogen storage medium from which a sufficient amount of hydrogen can be released in a short time by irradiating the hydrogen storage medium with an electromagnetic wave. SOLUTION: The hydrogen storage medium is produced by mixing a substance such as boron, carbon and an oxide, which absorbs the electromagnetic wave to generate heat, in an inorganic complex hydride such as a borohydride system of LiBH<SB>4</SB>and Mg(BH<SB>4</SB>)<SB>2</SB>, an alanate system of NaAlH<SB>4</SB>and an amide-imide system of LiNH<SB>2</SB>and Mg(NH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>2</SB>and a metal hydride such as MgH<SB>2</SB>, TiH<SB>2</SB>and AlH<SB>3</SB>. As a result, when the hydrogen storage medium is irradiated with the electromagnetic wave, the hydrogenation/dehydrogenation reaction can be advanced quickly in the hydrogen storage medium.
