A microporous separator for accumulators is made by sintering at least two layers of the same synthetic resin, the pore diameters of adjacent layers being different in the ratio of at least 1:2. The size of the resin particles may, for example, be from 1 to 20 microns in one layer and 8 to 100 microns in an adjacent layer, with pore diameters of 1 to 10 and 8 to 50 microns respectively. Where three layers are used, the finer particles are on the outside. Specified resins are polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride and polyethylene, and fillers may be added. In the examples, polystyrene particles in layers of 1 to 1,5 mm. thickness are provided on a moving support from hoppers and are sintered at 200 DEG -250 DEG C.ALSO:A microporous separator for accumulators is made by sintering at least two layers of the same synthetic resin, the pore diameters of adjacent layers being different in the ratio of at least 1 : 2.
