摘要 A method of manufacturing a component comprises the steps of providing a component having a first portion 60 defining a cavity 66, identifying a first frequency response of the first portion (or the entire component), and subsequently introducing material 68, 70 into the cavity so as to achieve an adjusted frequency response. Ideally the component 60 is a fan blade on a gas turbine engine fan rotor, while the filler material used in the recess comprising viscoelastic material which is capable of damping vibrations. The viscoelastic filler material may comprise hollow spheres 70 to vary its density, and may not entirely fill the recess 66. The fundamental frequencies of the blades are altered by the changing mass and/or damping properties in the blades. Their external profile preferably remains unchanged. Preferably, all the blades in the rotor are tuned to different natural frequencies so that in operation, their resonance is not synchronized. The component may be a stator blade, or blisk, while the cavity is located on its external surface.
