A spine exerciser comprises a supporting platform 1, an elliptical strider provided with foot supports 3 and a circular hand rotary member provided with hand grips 7. The elliptical strider includes an arm 4 pivotally connected at one end to each side of a foot rotary member 2 with the other ends of the arms 4 being configured to move along a horizontal guide 5. With the foot support 3 being fixed relative to each arm 4 they are constrained to follow an elliptical path upon rotation of the rotary member 2. A support structure 6 is pivotally attached to the supporting platform 1 and is adjustable to fix the angle of the structure 6 relative to the supporting platform 1 at a desired position. The hand rotary member is attached to the free end of the bearing structures 6. A kinematic transmission 8 connects the foot and hand rotary members such that they are rotatable in synchronisation. The exerciser is such that a user may simultaneously perform an elliptical motion with the feet and a circular motion with the hands while the torso of the user is unsupported above the exerciser. The exerciser strengthens the vertebrae and muscles of the spinal column as well as providing a cardiovascular training system. |
