PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stop controller of an internal combustion engine capable of performing stop control with enhanced responsiveness by shortening the time required by the time when the engine is actually stopped after the requirements for stoppage of the engine are satisfied. SOLUTION: In this stop controller of an internal combustion engine for so controlling the operation of the internal combustion engine that it is stopped at a target stop position when the predetermined requirements for stoppage are satisfied, the operations of the devices providing an external force to the engine are so controlled that the external load is reduced when the requirements for stoppage are satisfied (S4). A fuel supply to the engine is temporarily stopped in association with the operation control of the devices (S8, S9, S11). Then, the operating condition of the engine is so controlled that the rotational speed of the engine comes into a fuel-cut allowable rotational speed range corresponding to a target stop position (S12), and the fuel supply to the engine is stopped under the condition that the rotational speed of the engine comes into the fuel-cut allowable rotational speed range (S14).
