PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image scanner whose scanning speed can be improved and besides in which a black character in scanned data can be prevented from being colored in edge. SOLUTION: The image scanner is equipped with luminous sources 211 to 213, an image sensor 23 which produces line data when each of the luminous sources 211 to 213 has been lighted, an RGB scanned data producing unit 54 which produces RGB scanned data based on three line data corresponding to each of serial RGB colors, a black character extracting unit 55 which extracts groups of pixels of the black characters based on the RGB scanned image data produced, and a YCC scanned image data producing unit 56 which produces YCC pixel data for each elemental data making up each of the line data based on the serial three line data and substitutes, a peripheral color-difference component in the YCC pixel data corresponding to peripheral regions of black character regions, for a color-difference component of each YCC pixel data corresponding to the black character regions each surrounded with at least each of the pixel groups of the black characters to produce YCC scanned image data.
