The method involves activating a control signal (15) depending on a signal (11, 12), which comprises an ignition lock signal that is produced in an ignition locking device (2) of a vehicle. The control signal is deactivated depending on a combination of the signal (11, 12) and another signal (20-22), which indicate that passengers of the vehicle leave the vehicle. The signal (11, 12) indicates a position (9) of an ignition key in the ignition locking device, and/or the ignition lock signal indicates another position (10) of the ignition key in the ignition locking device.
