PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein, in such a video recording and playback apparatus as to be utilized by a plurality of users, contents video-recorded by each of the users may be adversely influenced on each other in such a way as deleted, moved, edited or viewed by other users. SOLUTION: A content management processing section 203 allocates management list information to each of users, records issued specified user IDs and content identification information, and records/holds them using an external memory (removable media such as SD memory card) 115, thereby simplifying personal authentication to a video recording and playback apparatus 100, protecting contents being managed by each of the users from operation such as deletion, movement, or editing by other users, or protecting the contents from a violation of privacy, etc., from the other users.
