PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To materialize a highly reliable and inexpensive liquid crystal display device having a display surface of a curved surface.

SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display panel has a TFT substrate and a color filter substrate which are formed of glass plates. The liquid crystal display panel is contained in a flame 11 having a curved surface to have the display surface of a predetermined curved surface. A direct backlight having a plurality of fluorescent tubes is used, wherein the distance between the respective fluorescent tubes and the liquid crystal display panel is kept constant. A diffusion plate has a curved surface similar to the display surface. Respective optical sheets have the predetermined curved surfaces by being placed on the diffusion plate. Thereby the liquid crystal display device having the curved surface is materialized without using an intricate optical system.
