PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make explanation information of an entry in sub-dictionary information be displayed when making explanation information of each entry word in main dictionary information be sequentially displayed. SOLUTION: An electronic dictionary 1 has: main and sub-dictionary DBs 840, 841; a main display 10 displaying each entry word corresponding to a search string as a main dictionary entry list; an input part 30 designating any entry word inside the main dictionary entry word list as a main dictionary designation entry word based on user operation; and a CPU (Central Processing Unit) 20 reading the explanation information of the main dictionary designation entry word from the main dictionary DB 840, making the main display 10 perform preview display, retrieving the entry word corresponding to the main dictionary designation entry word from the sub-dictionary DB 841, setting it as a sub-dictionary entry word, reading the explanation information of the sub-dictionary designation entry word from the sub-dictionary DB 841, and making it be performed with preview display.
