PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machining device capable of deciding more reliably whether or not a tool unit is correct to use, by measuring the length and the diameter of a tool holder and the length of the tool unit. SOLUTION: The machining device includes a main shaft to rotationally drive based on a process program, the tool unit having a machining tool attached to the tool holder configured on the top end of the main shaft in an exchangeable manner, and a measurement means to enable measurement of arbitrary points of the tool unit. The machining program or holder information 40B stores holder size information indicative of a particular point size capable of identifying the tool holder 80. Before starting machining, the machining device reads out the holder size information, measures the particular point size of the tool holder configuring the tool unit attached to the main shaft, using the measurement means, and starts the machining when the difference between the readout holder size information and the measured tool holder size is within a predetermined range, or suspends the machining when the difference is not within the predetermined range.
